Step back in time at Wells House, which has over 300 years of history encompassing Cromwell, Rebellions and the Famine. Built in the late 1600’s by John Warren, the house was completely redesigned in the 1830’s by renowned architect Daniel Robertson, whose impressive portfolio also includes Kilruddery, Powerscourt Estate and Johnstown Castle. In 1965 the Rosler family bought the house which remains in their family to this day. Experience the magic of this beautiful period house with a “living house tour” conducted by a tour guide in full Victorian costume.

It is a wonderful place to enjoy the outdoors with archery, two woodland walks, falconry, clay pigeon shooting and much more.  Relax in the beautifully restored formal Victorian Terrace Gardens, based on the original Daniel Robertson plans of the 1830’s. Learn of the 300 year history of the estate and its grounds with a Wells House & Gardens garden tour, where the head horticulturist will take you on a guided tour through the stunning grounds highlighting on-going restoration work and original features.

The Craft Courtyard located in the old stable block showcases the talents of local craftspeople and artists, with beautiful Irish artistry on display.  This treasure trove of crafts creates a unique retail experience for visitors and gives you the perfect chance to pick up a special keepsake of your trip to Wells House and Gardens. Or visit the recently opened art gallery in the Craft Courtyard. The Wells Garden Shop offers a bespoke shopping experience to garden lovers. It is staffed by a team of trained horticulturists who are on hand to discuss the many perennials and shrubs growing throughout the Wells Estate. It is a hidden gem for the gardening enthusiast.

Enjoy a picnic in the summer on the lawn. Or sample the delicious lunches and home baked treats in Mrs. Stone’s restaurant.

Wells House and Gardens hosts a variety of family events throughout the year, such as a classic car show, fairy scavenger hunts, a teddy bear picnic, open air theatre, knights and princesses party and a nature hunt, along with many many more.
