The award winning Dunbrody Experience and replica Emigrant Ship is moored on the Quays in the heritage town of New Ross, a 30 minute drive from Wexford Town. The Dunbrody Famine Ship is an authentic reproduction of an 1840’s emigrant vessel, and provides a world-class interpretation of the famine emigrant experience. With guided tours, costumed performers, themed exhibitions and the Irish America Hall of Fame, the emigrant story is brought to life and provides unique insights into the bravery of the Irish people during the famine. The Dunbrody Famine Ship Experience showcases tales from real passengers on their way to a brave new life in the “New World”.

The Dunbrody Famine Ship tells the story of famine and emigration from the point of view of those who endured it. Immerse yourself in the sights, smells and sounds of the famine ship, above and below deck, with visitors being transported back to the 1840s to relive the sense of the sadness and excitement felt by the people setting sail for a new life. For many, the 3 masted barque Dunbrody ship was their home for the month long trip to New York from Ireland.

On board, the passionate Dunbrody tour guides describe the harshness of conditions people experienced on the voyage, while costumed performers relive the stories of famine emigrants, bringing the whole experience to life. At the end of the tour the Arrivals Hall showcases the fate awaiting those who survived the arduous journey. Relive this interesting and inspiring journey at the Dunbrody Famine Ship Experience.

Wexford has unique Irish American links, with it being the ancestral home to President John F. Kennedy. Visitors can explore this connection through the “Emigrant Trail” visiting the Kennedy Homestead, the JFK Memorial Park and the Emigrant Flame and Dunbrody Famine Ship. The Dunbrody Famine Ship experience is a replica famine ship of the vessel which JFK’s great grandfather would have left Ireland on many generations ago.
